The Smart Way to Clean and Maintain Your Wi-Fi Pizza Oven

Even if your shiny new pizza oven won’t stay shiny forever, keeping your oven clean is important to extending the longevity of the oven. The good news is maintaining a smart pizza oven is easy! It’s minimal effort to keep your Volta clean. Doing so can extend the life of the oven and make your food taste better. Use this as your smart pizza oven care guide.

How to Clean Your Wi-Fi Pizza Oven

Cleaning the Outside of your Oven

How to clean a Fontana Volta oven isn’t that different from cleaning any other Fontana Forni oven.

Cleaning the outside of your oven is simple. You can wipe it down with a microfiber cloth and water or use liquid Barkeepers Friend if it needs a deeper cleaning. Just make sure to pay attention to the direction you  are going in. When cleaning the outside you’ll want to follow the grain of the stainless steel from left to right. If you go in a circular pattern, you’ll scratch swirls or circles into the front of your oven.  We also offer an organic oven cleaning kit that comes with gloves and a cloth.

How often you wipe down the outside depends on the elements and if you live in a salt water environment. If you do live by salt water, it’s imperative to cover your oven after each use to avoid erosion from the salt water.

When cleaning the LCD screen, you’ll clean it like you would any other screen, with a microfiber cloth and screen cleaner.

If the oven is in extremely cold temperatures (-10) you can pull the screen out and there’s a plastic block to put in its place.

Cleaning the Inside of Your Oven

Cleaning the inside of the oven is the same as you would any of our other ovens. The simplest way to do this is by letting the oven clean itself. You should NEVER put any chemical cleaners inside the oven.

  1. Turn the pizza oven to a temperature between 700-900 degrees (or if using wood fired, build a fire near the stain). If you have a lot to burn off, the higher temperature is better.

  2. Let the fire burn for 20-30 minutes. It should incinerate any leftover toppings or whatever else may have fallen on the stones.

  3. When the oven cools down, take a brush and brush out anything that’s left on the stones.

  4. Your oven is now clean and ready to use again.

Cleaning the Technology Components

The main difference in how to clean a smart pizza oven versus our regular ovens is the technology.

The temperature probes should be cleaned after each use and are dishwasher safe. They can also easily be wiped down with warm water. Like we mentioned earlier, the screen itself should be wiped down with screen cleaner and a microfiber cloth. It’s that simple! If it’s below -10 degrees you can remove the screen completely.

How often should you clean your smart oven?

You should clean the outside of your smart oven whenever you feel like it needs a good wipe down. The inside of your oven should be cleaned after every use so you get rid of any food debris. The same goes for each time you use the probes to avoid any contamination.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you run into any technical issues, the oven is equipped with a simple service access panel. Just slide the access plate open for full access to the electronics and gas components.

If you receive an error message, turn off your oven to reset the error. The app will tell you what the error code means and offer solution options.

For any Wi-fi connectivity issues try turning it on and off in the app. If that doesn’t work, please check your network connection.
