The Pizza e Cucina Doppio is a Beast
What a beautiful piece of equipment. Very solid and well made. I have used it about 7 times now - pizza twice, grilled meats 3 times, smoked chicken once and spaghetti al carbonara. The oven is great - it took some practice to get the temps right but I'm getting the hang of it. It works great for grilling and the plancha is easy to use. My only complaint is for smoking - the fire box below the oven is too small and difficult to maintain a low heat. It would be great if the firebox below the flattop could be used for smoking - that would give a good indirect heat source. But that is a minor complaint - I am having lots of fun experimenting with this oven/grill and love following y'all on Instagram. More recipes on the blog, please.

Scott,Thank you so much for the review on the Pizza E Cucina. We are currently renovating our test kitchen, and as soon as it is finished we will be posting many more videos and pictures on using the Pizza E Cucina. I really appreciate your feedback on the unit. If you contact us, we can give you some pointers on the smoking part of the use of the unit.

Fire your shipping contractors
After 11 days and many broken promises, the cucina arrived. All of the blame for my disappointment in this experience cannot be solely heaped upon Fontana Forni but I have to question their relationships with the vendors they hire to deliver their ovens. Why am I disappointed? The Fontana Forni cucina I ordered was shipped from South Carolina and I live in North Carolina no more than 30 miles from the SC border. When I ordered the cucina on a Monday morning, I called Fontana Forni right away to ask when would the oven be delivered. At that time, the expectation was set by the Fontana Forni rep that it should "be there by Friday" since the shipping distance was so short and they had never had any issues with shipping to NC that would cause it to be any later than the upcoming Fri.I planned a dinner party on Sat to share this new cucina with family and friends. Fri arrived and no oven... in fact I was told (by Fontana Forni) that the oven had been shipped to Kentucky for some reason and there would be no delivery on Fri. Fontana Forni then gives me the contact info for the shipper they hired after Fontana had tried to get them to call me, without success. The shipper did not call me so I called them. They explained that the cucina had been shipped to Maryland from SC for some unknown reason that they could not explain. I asked when would the oven be delivered. They could not give me a definitive date... which is shocking considering the transparency and efficiency of shipping these days. So I waited another two days only to be told that another contractor was involved and that contractor was having issues delivering due to too many deliveries and not enough trucks. After inquiring for the third time with the shipping contractor, I get a robo call telling me to call an 800 number to confirm my shipping date and time and that they would be available to schedule until 6PM EDT. The robo call was received at 5:35PM. I hung up and dialed the 800 number immediately to schedule my delivery for the next day. The 800 number gave its greeting which stated that the hours I could call was between 8AM and 4PM M-F which is in contradiction to what I was told by the robo call. I left a message. The next day, a Thursday, I called the 800 number again because I had not yet received a followup call from them. They would not accept any responsibility between what the robo call detailed and the reality of their hours of operation and they did not seem to care to fix the issue so other future customers would not have to endure the same thing that I did. This "white glove" shipping was explained to be by Fontana Forni, by the contractor they use to organize the shipping, as a full-service shipping where the people that deliver the cucina would unpack it, assemble and remove all packaging. This "white glove" shipping is not free and can be as high as $250. The only reason we wanted "white glove" shipping is that we live on a very steep gravel driveway and have no truck to carry heavy items from the road up the driveway to our house. So we waited for this "white glove" shipping even though, had the initial shipping destination not been botched, we might have received it much sooner. Finally, on a Friday, 11 days after the order and thousands of miles of travel for the cucina up and down the East Coast, it arrives... in a truck that was far too large to traverse our wooded drive. Another failure by the shippers since I discussed at length how they were to ship to us, the type of truck that was acceptable and the precautions the driver would have to take to ensure a safe delivery. Everything I discussed about this was ignored by the sub-sub-contractor. So, the poor guys that delivered the unit had to hand truck it up a very steep drive for more than 200 feet. Finally, the guys that delivered the unit asked me where to unpack it... but they were told not to assemble it. "White glove" shipping was supposed to include the assembly so one final absurdity to cap off an ordeal that I would not wish on anyone. The cucina is a great addition to our outdoor living area and I have enjoyed using it. It's well built and looks great. However, all I can think about was the avoidable stress we endured because of the shipping contractors that Fontana Forni employs.

Mark,We are very sorry to hear about the negative experience you had with the shipping company. We do pick and choose carriers based on our experience with them and this is a case where we will need to reconsider using this particular company. When we choose our carriers we make our choice based on the following criteria:1. the merchandise arrives safely 2. the transit times are reasonable 3. the customer service is excellentIn your case, the shipping company fell short on 2 of the 3 requirements. Regardless of who we use, we are forced to depend on others. Since we ship all over North America, we have discovered some carriers have excellent service in some areas but weak service in others. Sometimes a driver may have a bad day and take it out on a customer. Some terminals may have bad management. There are variety of potential issues. As in any great business, we constantly evaluate and make changes based on each customer's experience, and I regret to say that your experience is one that will force us to take a close look at the white glove delivery company we use. They did not meet your expectations and also did not meet our expectations. Please note that we did not charge you for the white glove delivery because of all the problems. We are, however, grateful that you are happy with the Pizza e Cucina! Please know that we do appreciate the business!Kirk Laing Owner
